GRAIN ROT Weapons Tier List
From tutorial mallet to inventory-tier guns — know your tools.
GRAIN ROT weapons double as demolition tools and Corrupted deterrents. This tier list ranks mallet, sword, hammer, and gun options observed in demo footage once Outpost inventory tiers unlock. Noise and rot exposure matter as much as raw damage.
Unlock paths: room upgrades and room priority list.
Tier overview
| Tier | Weapon | Role |
|---|---|---|
| S | Hammer (inventory tier) | Fast demolition + strong melee |
| S | Sword (inventory tier) | Consistent Corrupted kills in chokepoints |
| A | Gun (higher inventory tier) | Burst damage, high noise |
| B | Mallet (starter) | Tutorial demolition, weak vs Corrupted |
| C | Bare hands / emotes | Memes only |
S Tier — hammer
Hammer excels at breaking furniture faster than mallet — speeding Grinder loops. Also viable in melee anchors when Corrupted arrive. Best generalist once unlocked.
S Tier — sword
Sword provides reliable kill tempo in door chokepoints. Pair with blocking constructs. Slightly less demolition speed than hammer but safer combat DPS.
A Tier — gun
Gun appears at higher inventory tiers in demo progression. High damage but loud — alerts distant Corrupted. Use for Elite targets post-launch or emergency extractions, not routine grinding.
B Tier — mallet
Mallet from Murch handles tutorial objectives and weak props. Insufficient for deep-layer combat. Replace ASAP.
Noise considerations
| Weapon | Noise profile |
|---|---|
| Mallet | Medium impacts |
| Hammer | Medium-high |
| Sword | Medium |
| Gun | High |
Stealth routes favor hammer over gun when Corrupted already alerted.
Co-op loadout spreads
Ideal four-player spread mid-game:
- One hammer demolisher
- One sword anchor
- One gun flex for emergencies
- One scout with mobility focus
Adjust in Co-op & Spark Mechanics.
Launch updates
Enchantment & Repair Machine may modify weapon stats. Re-tier after August 2026 patches.
Weapon swap mid-run etiquette
When a player unlocks sword or hammer mid-session, call swap before combat contact. Anchors should not discover new melee reach during active Corrupted flanks. Practice swings on expendable props first — noise still applies.
Demo weapon unlock reminder
| Weapon | Typical unlock signal |
|---|---|
| Mallet | Tutorial default |
| Hammer | Inventory tier progression |
| Sword | Tier three inventory rooms |
| Gun | Higher inventory tier in demo footage |
Exact room names vary — confirm in your Outpost after room upgrades.
Launch re-tier watch
Enchantment & Repair Machine may alter weapon maintenance or stats. Re-tier this list when patch notes mention DPS, noise, or durability changes. Until then, demo observations stand.
Ammunition and noise tradeoff reminder
Guns solve screamer contacts quickly but broadcast position. Document when your crew allows gunfire — example: only after extract already called or during Elite launch encounters post-August 2026.

Weapon training order
Learn mallet demolition in tutorial zones, add hammer for Grinder speed in mid biomes, unlock sword for anchor chokepoints, and treat gun as emergency flex after inventory tiers stabilize.
PvE weapon failure modes
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| Mallet in deep combat | Upgrade inventory tiers first |
| Gun as primary grind tool | Use hammer for noise control |
| Sword in open fields | Pull to door constructs |
