GRAIN ROT Keyboard & Mouse Controls

Default PC bindings and interaction reference from demo gameplay.

Last updated:

GRAIN ROT on PC uses a keyboard and mouse layout familiar to first-person co-op players. Beck & Branch Games has not published a final official binding sheet at wiki time, so this reference compiles consistent actions seen across demo footage, Creator Partner guides, and Steam Next Fest previews. Bindings may change slightly before August 7, 2026 — verify in Settings after launch.

Pair this page with Controller & Steam Deck if you play on handheld or couch co-op setups.

Movement and camera

ActionTypical bindingNotes

Jump / vaultSpaceUsed on uneven ruin terrain
SprintShift (likely)Increases noise — Corrupted react
CrouchCtrl or CStealth partial; not full invisibility

Exact sprint/crouch keys should be confirmed in-game at launch. Steam Input allows remapping if defaults feel awkward.

Interaction and tools

Grab mechanics power both logistics and friendly trolling — see Co-op & Spark Mechanics.

Building and Outpost placement

Outpost construction uses rotation and placement modes shown in demo building segments:

  • Enter build mode near valid tiles
  • Rotate piece before confirming
  • Cancel if piece blocks elevator paths or doorways

Misplaced constructs waste scrap. Review constructs guide before large builds.

Emotes and communication

GRAIN ROT includes emotes — some explicitly cursed for comedy. Emotes may generate audio that alerts Corrupted or triggers rot symptom animations. Bind emotes away from combat keys to avoid accidental activation during chases.

For voice communication, use external Discord — link on official links.

PC performance and input lag

Minimum specs: Windows 10 64-bit, GTX 970 class GPU, 8 GB RAM, broadband internet for online co-op. Input lag usually stems from frame drops, not network, except during physics-heavy scenes.

Tips:

  • Cap FPS slightly below monitor refresh for stability
  • Lower shadows in scorch zones if stuttering
  • Wired mouse for consistent demolition timing

Full requirements on release date page.

Steam Input fallback

Even on keyboard-primary setups, Steam Input can map extra buttons for Grinder feed, emotes, or push-to-talk. Useful for streamers who need one-hand navigation.

Mouse sensitivity and FOV recommendations

Demo players report better demolition consistency at medium-low sensitivity with default FOV. High sensitivity helps camera checks during Corrupted flanks but hurts precise mallet swings on narrow props. Start near 800–1200 effective DPI at 1080p and adjust after one tutorial run.

If you stream, disable mouse acceleration at the OS level. Windows pointer precision interferes with repeatable swing timing on destructible clusters.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Are these bindings official?

They reflect demo gameplay and community footage. Confirm final defaults in-game after the August 2026 launch.

Can I play entirely with keyboard?

Yes. Keyboard and mouse are the stated minimum PC input on Steam.

Which key interacts with the Grinder?

Use the standard interact key near the lever — typically E or F in demo footage.

Does mouse sensitivity matter?

Yes for melee timing and quick camera checks during Corrupted flanks. Lower sensitivity helps precise demolition.
