GRAIN ROT Day-One Prep
Launch night checklist — install, crew, guides, and first-run goals.
GRAIN ROT is out now on Steam — released August 7, 2026 at $9.99 USD with a $8.99 intro offer (10% off) through August 21, 2026. The Steam Next Fest demo ended in June 2026, so this page is your post-purchase launch night checklist: install cleanly, prep your PC, find a crew on Discord, and read guides in the right order before your first descent.
Use this checklist whether you bought during intro week or at full price — the steps keep day one smooth instead of a blind wipe.
Step 1 — Install and verify
Purchase on Steam app 4450620 if you have not already. Grab the $8.99 intro price before August 21, 2026 if you want the launch-week discount.
Before inviting friends:
- Confirm 10 GB free storage on your install drive
- Update GPU drivers (NVIDIA / AMD latest stable)
- Verify Windows 10 64-bit and minimum specs on release date and price
- Run a solo tutorial pass to confirm stability before co-op
Minimum hardware reference:
- Intel Core i5-4590 / AMD Ryzen 5 2600 class CPU
- 8 GB RAM
- DirectX 11 GPU with 2 GB VRAM
- Broadband internet for online co-op
Co-op groups should verify every member meets networking basics — GRAIN ROT supports online co-op up to four players, not local split-screen.
Step 2 — Join official community channels
Primary hubs linked from our official links page:
- Discord — LFG, bug reports, feedback the devs actually read
- Steam community hub — news posts, patch notes, and discussion threads
- Creator Partner program — apply if you produce video content
Post your LFG message with region, voice chat preference, and whether your group allows friendly trolling. Launch week fills Discord fast — pin Getting Started for new crew members.
Step 3 — Study core mechanics before co-op
Read guides in this order — especially if you missed the Next Fest demo:
- Getting Started — Living Spark, Murch tutorial, elevator loop
- Vessel types — wooden body silhouettes and mobility tradeoffs
- Co-op & Spark mechanics — death is not always spectating
- Extraction run guide — when to leave with loot
- Rot sickness guide — infection spreads to rooms and allies
Watch Jem’s Creator Partner video embedded on Getting Started — Steam officially recommends it on the community hub.
Step 4 — Plan your co-op session zero
Before your first full run, agree on:
- Voice chat platform and push-to-talk rules (sound matters in-game)
- Who reads keyboard and mouse vs controller bindings
- Whether friendly trolling (dropkicks, prop smashing) is allowed
- Extract abort callouts — see survive the Corrupted
Use the Outpost Upgrade Planner after your first gold haul — useful for theorycraft debates on launch night.
Step 5 — Know what 1.0 includes
Demo alumni already know three biomes, Grinder loops, and Outpost upgrades. The live 1.0 build adds Elite Encounters, two new biomes, player leveling, Enchantment Machine, second Outpost floor, and more — full checklist on launch features.
Avoid scam sites promising free keys or fake promo codes. GRAIN ROT is a paid release — see release hub FAQ on codes.
Step 6 — Bookmark wiki sections for week one
Priority reading after your first sessions:
- Enemies hub for Elite Encounters
- Maps hub for new biomes
- Tier list hub after balance patches
- Post-launch roadmap for live-service plans
Launch week context
Steam sits at Very Positive (~89%, ~874 purchaser reviews) at wiki update time. Expect day-one hotfixes for co-op networking and balance — cross-check Steam news app 4450620 before treating Reddit rumors as patch notes.
